Professor Grant Townsend has been an academic staff member of the School of Dentistry, University of Adelaide for over 30 years. 

Grant was appointed as Professor of Dental Science in 1994 and is currently the Leader of the Craniofacial Biology and Dental Education Group within the School of Dentistry. He is involved in undergraduate teaching in the areas of anatomy, local anaesthesia and dental occlusion. He supervises postgraduate students undertaking honours degrees, professional doctorates and PhDs.

Grant's research interests are in the fields of craniofacial biology and dental education, including studies of dental development and oral health in Australian twins. He has published around 300 papers in refereed journals and has been invited to give presentations on his research interests in many countries around the world.
